Deep River Rail Trail Phase 2 Dedication and Grand Opening

The Town of Franklinville will be celebrating the dedication and grand opening of Phase 2 of the Deep River Rail Trail on National Trails Day, Saturday, June 1st, at 9 am. Attached is a flyer with directions to the grand opening. Please disseminate as you see fit. There are several people and organizations we wish to thank for this achievement, and plan to do so there. We hope to see all of you on the 1st.
- ¾-mile section of trail on an old rail bed paralleling the Deep River. Connects to Phase 1 to make a 3-mile round-trip hike. Forested trail, new trail surface.
- Visit the historic fish weir on the Deep River.
- (High water levels will hide weir)
- A short dedication/ribbon cutting with comments, then a group walk to the Hwy64 bridge.
Directions:
From Asheboro and points west: From the intersection of Hwy 220 and Hwy 64 in Asheboro, it is about 7.7 miles east on Hwy 64 to the stoplight at Andrew Hunter Road (NC 2235) and Foxfire Rd; turn left at stoplight and go 2.1 miles. Riverside Park and the Grand Opening location will be on the right just after passing the Fire Dept.
From Siler City and points east: Drive west on Highway 64 to Ramseur; turn right on NC Hwy 22 North and drive about 1.8 miles. Riverside Park and the Grand Opening location will be on your left.
From Climax or Pleasant Garden to the north: Drive south on NC Highway 22 all the way into Franklinville (at stop sign, with Sonoco station on your left). Continue to follow Hwy 22 (it becomes Main St.) through town (.3 miles). Riverside Park and the Grand Opening location will be on the right just after passing the Fire Dept.
